Daily Muse: How would you describe your art?
Arnell: My art these days is collage/mixed media and most always with a Tarot theme.
DM: What is your favorite piece of your own art and why?
Arnell: I enjoy losing myself in making a miniature occult shop which takes forever due to all
the construction needed and then the making of all the tiny inventory of Tarot decks, books,
Ouija boards, crystal balls, magic wands etc...the sort of inventory you might find in some
funky little occult shop. If you like, you can see
samples here.
DM: Do you have favorite movies?
Arnell: Nothing that’s currently out, but my favorite movies to watch when I'm blue are:
To Kill a Mockingbird
Down by Law
Waking World
The Big Lebowski
Rivers & Tides (artist Andy Goldsworthy)
The Royal Tenenbaums
Amelie
Good Night, and Good Luck
And when I want to watch something completely ridiculous & hilarious,
The Search For One Eyed Jimmy
DM: Is there music that you love to hear?
Arnell: Pretty much anything Sting does will put me in the creative spirit as well as
Paul Simon and Tom Waits. I still catch new meanings and nuances when listening to their
lyrics and their melodies can really transport my soul while working on an art project.
DM: Which artists do you love?
Arnell A few that come to mind are
J.W. Waterhouse and many of those Pre-Raphaelite artists
Frida Kahlo
Dave McKean
Susan Seddon Boulet
Andy Goldsworthy
Niki de Saint Phalle (her incredible Tarot Garden in Italy)
and my friend Leslie Cochran of
Dreamythology.com
DM: Whom do you most admire and why?
Arnell: I admire creative people that not only share inspirational work but also give back to
the bigger community such as Sting, George Clooney, Bono. I also admire Jon Stewart for his
ability to be so funny and relevant and Bill Maher for his guts...same goes for Russ Feingold,
Robert Kennedy Jr. (environmental lawyer) and Rachel Maddow. I learn a lot from hearing them on
Air America Radio
and am inspired by their honesty and courage.
