The Hero's Journey 78 Card Deck, Book and Box Set
By Arnell Ando
Hero's Journey is the unpublished cards from my first deck and the older, wilder sister to Transformational Tarot. The collages combine contemporary imagery with
old world art. This is a full size, 78 card handmade deck with signed book, signature card, and handcrafted, collaged box. The original cards were done by
hand with a pair of scissors, glue stick and stacks of art books, old comics, greeting cards and magazines. It takes 10 days to make this set. The cards are
color copied off the original collages, cut out and individually pasted onto designed backs and trimmed. They are then cut, laminated and trimmed a final time. This is a time
consuming process and along with the handcrafted box and booklet, the reason for the high cost of the set. The price remained the same since the 1990's.
Hero's Journey as of 2010
Aside from the painted/collaged wooden box that originally came with orders, a new
style handcrafted box option features 3 cards from the deck (shown
below). Each box is one of a kind, signed work of art in itself. The newer box has a card fastened on top, (collaged on thick cardstock to give more
dimension). The inside, top of box also has a card which has been collaged onto
thick cardstock. A 3rd card is featured inside the box. The top and bottom of
these boxes are larger than the center section for
added dimension. The bottom of the box has 4 polished glass shoes.
It's been over 25 years since Hero's Journey was created, so I spent a few months rescanning each handmade card and
refining collage detail in Photoshop in hopes of offering a higher quality version of this deck without
altering original collage concepts. The spiral bound booklet has a streamline look and thumbnail pictures of all cards.
Thank you for supporting handcrafted indie artwork!
